This wilderness experience is a must that every church do undertake without them knowing, and that’s the reason the church is not utilizing the experience to its advantages. It’s like a student in a class without knowing the time he is being given a test and examination, such a student will remain in the same class for quite a while because you can’t be promoted to the next class without passing an examination. The same thing happens in the spiritual. Acts 7:38 This is he, that was in the church in the wilderness with the angel which spake to him in the mount Sinai, and with our fathers, who received the lively oracles to give unto us. The Angels are ever there in the wilderness to assist the church when the need arises.
Who Is The Church?
To some people, whenever they hear the name church, what comes to their mind is a building where some Christians gather to worship their God, , but let it be known to you that 1 Corinthians 3:16 Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the spirit of God dwelleth in you? You are the church or temple of God and not the building. Therefore, this post will enlighten you about the wilderness experience you’re going through that you may not have been conscious about, and the purpose of God for allowing you to experience it.
What Is The Wilderness?
Wilderness is a place of drought and loneliness.A wilderness is usually not a convenient place where any human will of his own volition want to live in. In the spirituality, a wilderness for believers is a place of confusion and temptations, and it’s, however, a must for every Christian to be made to pass through his/her own wilderness in life.
It’s like a student that needed promotion, s/he must be willing and ready to take an exam and be prepared to pass the examination in other to be promoted. Likewise, the wilderness is a place of lifting to every Christian, if you really desire a lifting up, financial, physically or spiritually you need to be prepared to go through your own wilderness because that’s God’s examination hall. Acts 13:18 And about the time of forty years suffered he their manners in the wilderness.
Yes, the wilderness is a place of suffering but all Christians must be made to go through it for it is meant for our own lifting up. Therefore, do not be deceived that you’ll not experience tribulation in this world as a Christian, but whenever you’re faced with trials and temptations be glad because after that painful experience in the wilderness comes your lifting up. Hosea 13:15 Though he be fruitful among his brethren, an east wind shall come, the wind of the Lord shall come up from the wilderness, and his spring shall become dry and his fountain shall be dried up, he shall spoil the treasure of all pleasant vessels. Believe me, sincerely, the problem you’re facing now was allowed by God. However, the problem is not meant to break you but to make you – elevate you. God allowed it as an examination you must undertake to be promoted to your next spiritual class. Jesus also endures in his wilderness and He was exalted and glorified after His own wilderness experience. Mattew 4:1 Then was Jesus led up of the spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.
Wilderness is a place of temptation that the Holy Spirit lead us into to be tempted by the devil. Even in that unpleasant situation you’re passing through be calm and rejoice in it because it’s working to your advantage.
Psalm 19:14 Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer.
In the wilderness where God has allowed you to be tempted, understand that you will be scored by God, and the words of your mouth and the meditation of your heart is the answer sheet that will be examined by God. Therefore you need to be mindful of the words that proceed from your mouth and the thoughts you harbor in your heart even when not pleased with your situation. Be sure that your thoughts and words glorify God.
The mindset of God for allowing you to go through the wilderness of life was:
1. To Humble You.
Deuteronomy 8:2 And thou shall remember all the way which the Lord thy God led these forty years in the wilderness, to humble thee, and to prove thee, to know what was in thine heart, whether thou wouldest keep this commandment or not. One of the reasons for the wilderness examination is to make you be humble. It’s to the humble that God gives grace for exploit. I want you to examine yourself if you’re truly humble and if not you’ll need to work on yourself.
2. To Purify You
For you to be made perfect for God’s purpose you first have to be purified.
And purification comes from when you’re baptized with the Holy Ghost and perfected through trials in the wilderness. Jesus explained how hard the kingdom of God is to take in Matthew 11:22 And from the time of John the Baptist until now, the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force. The wilderness is not easy for anyone and because the Glory that comes after the trial has nothing powerful enough to be paid for therefore you’re made purified through the wilderness to guarantee your Glory.
There are physical and spiritual rewards that come from after the wilderness experience both of which cannot be received unless you’re purified by God through the wilderness of life.
The greatest miracle a Christian can receive is the certainty of his/her heaven, and every time you’re faced with temptations you’re been purified thereby to be certified for that great miracle.
What shall it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and lose his soul to hellfire? Many Christians are distracted by the preaching of prosperity that they lose sight of God’s kingdom that is inherited after been purified with trials and temptations.
Luke 3:16 … He shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire.
Baptism of fire is not always followed by sweet experience. In fact, after the disciples were baptized with the Holy Ghost in Acts Chapter 2, a lot of unpalatable things happened to them thereafter. Many were killed some were imprisoned. Am not trying to scare you and am not saying you have to die or be imprisoned in order to be purified but to make you understand that purification is a continuous thing and it’s done by trials and temptations.
God will not tempt you beyond what he knows you can handle at your level of faith.
Malachi 3:3 And he shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver, and he shall purify the son of Levi and purge them as gold and silver, that they may offer unto the Lord an offering in righteousness.
The take away from this purification is for all your offerings to be pleasant unto the Lord.
Try your best to be righteous through trials and temptations for it is for your purification. The devil will try all in his power to cause you to fail, but stand fast and hold onto your faith.
To die in a strange man country doesn’t perish your soul but any man that dies without been purified for heaven is condemned to everlasting doom.
Hebrews 11:15 And if they had been mindful of that country from whence they came out, they might have had opportunity to have returned.
Let the thought of your heavenly home fill your heart every seconds of the hour and every hour of the day and by so doing you’ll be privileged to return therein.
The antics of the devil is to engulf someone heart with all the pleasures of life deceiving us that if we pursue and have the pleasures of life we will be fulfilled in life. But it’s a lie, even if you’re the richest person in the world without Christ you can’t be fulfilled. You shouldn’t follow the dictates of the devil that you must continue to amass more wealth to be fulfilled. We can see from the book of Luke that there are more important things in life than the material things a man can possess. Luke 12:15 And he said unto them, take heed, and beware of covetousness, for a man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesses.
Christ is the only sure source of fulfillment that you can have, so instead of pursuing wealth, please pursue the knowledge of Christ and sure wealth will pursue you.
Job 22:23,24 If thou return to the Almighty, thou shall be built up, though shalt put away iniquity far from thy tabernacles (24) Then shalt thou lay up gold as dust, and the gold of Ophir as the stones of the Brooks.
This is the steps to real prosperity and nothing more but some people are putting the cart before the horse (seeking prosperity instead of firstly seeking after God).
3. To Build You To A Level That Is Required To Make Heaven.
As seen in Judges 7:1-7, God is using the wilderness experience to build us that we may grow to a percentage level that is required to make heaven. You can’t be made worthy of the kingdom of God except you’re made to pass through the wilderness of life. That’s where your faith in the promise of the kingdom of God is established.
Wilderness is required for sorting men of faith from infants. When Gideon call for the war volunteers, thirty-two thousand showed up, then God told him to tell the fearful to go back home, twenty-two thousand people left and went home, and it was now just ten thousand men left in the volunteer stand, but God didn’t stop there, but continued with the sorting by giving another test until it was just three hundred left. This three hundred were qualified to go to the war but they were not picked at random but were each tested to determine those who truly qualify to go to the war. The same shall be with the kingdom of God. There will be sorted until the Just is all that is left. But assuredly I say to you, only few shall be made worthy of the kingdom of God. Are you willing to be among the few that inherit the kingdom of heaven? Then you have to endure your wilderness -whatever that may be; Take heed to the words of your mouth and the meditation of your heart.
Zechariah 13:7-9 Awake, O sword against my shepherd, and against the man that is my fellow, saith the Lord of hosts, smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered, and I will turn mine hand upon the little one. (8) And it shall come to pass, that in all the land, saith the Lor, two parts therein shall be cut off and die, but the third shall be left therein. (9) And I will bring the third part through the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined, and will try them as gold is tried.
Am privilege to know in my father workshop, who was a goldsmith that before gold can bring out the beauty that makes people desire it, it would have been made to pass through fire much time.
From the scripture quoted above, we are made to understand that it’s not every Christian that’s made to walk through the wilderness will be privileged to overcome and enjoy the benefit that comes after being tempted in the wilderness of one’s life but rather 1/3 of those that are made to walk through the wilderness will become victorious after the trial.
If you’re presently experiencing tribulation and you examine yourself and it doesn’t seem to be as a result of sin that you’ve indulged in, then you should be very happy because it shows that you’re among the 1/3 of Christians that were heavenly aspirant, and you must also strive to be even among the 3% of those 1/3 to inherit the kingdom of heaven.
No wonder Jesus said in Matthew 22:14 For many are called, few are chosen. I implore you, therefore, to strive to be among the chosen few to inherit the kingdom of heaven. God has allowed you to read this post for better understanding of why believers are tried in the wilderness and what God expects of them during the trial.
Now that God has given you the secret of the wilderness of life and the reason why every Christian must be made to face his/her own wilderness and what is expected of you to come out victorious from every wilderness you may be made to face. I implore you to always be steadfast and know that “To us believers, much has been given and much is expected of us“.
